What does a wedding planner do?

A wedding planners’ job is to manage the wedding celebration from start to finish and make your planning process as stress free and enjoyable as possible. Handing over all the time consuming and less interesting tasks, such as budget management, logistics, schedules, timelines and liaising with suppliers, allows you to fully enjoy the experience.

On the wedding day itself we supervise the set-up, manage the suppliers and make sure the entire event runs seamlessly. Also ensuring you and your guests are completely taken care of from the moment they arrive. We also oversee take down, when the celebrations are over, so you don’t need to worry about a thing.

As both a wedding designer and stylist, in addition to a planner, I craft a bespoke design narrative which serves as the foundation for the entire celebration. This vision, inspired by you, weaves your personal tastes and style into each detail and creates a cohesive feel.

How much does a wedding planner cost?

Wedding planners usually charge a percentage of the overall budget, with a minimum fee applied. Some costs may be excluded for example the dress, so its worth clarifying what is included.

When should I start planning my wedding?

On average a wedding is planned in around 12 months, sometimes 18 but rarely more. The shortest time frame I have worked to so far has been 4 months although I have known planners do it in 6 weeks, so anything is possible!

One possible restriction when working with a shorter time frame may be the availability of your venue, these can get booked up well in advance so if you have your heart set on one, perhaps check their diary before deciding on a date.

Also, your ‘must have’ supplier list if you have one is something to consider. In order to create your dream team, check the availability of your favourites. With many quality suppliers being booked up well in advance it may be best to secure your dream choice of photographer or ensure your amazing florist will be available on your date before you send out your ‘save the dates’.

This may come as surprise, but the size of wedding isn’t necessarily a factor, as it requires as much design thought to design an intimate wedding as a larger one.

If you need to move fast and don’t have a lot of time on your hands, a wedding planner might be a great help in moving things along while you get on with everyday life. Additionally, they should have a have a list of trusted and incredible suppliers available, without you needing to do hours of research.
